A Christmas Sharpener by Pencil Studio Ltd

The curse of the Christmas mailer, an opportunity to create something really engaging for your clients but that hasn't already been done before. Every year we try and send something to our clients to say thank you. We can only produce good work with clients that appreciate creativity and the good it can do. It's also a great opportunity to flex the creative muscle and for us to define the brief from start to finish. This years idea was a Christmas sharpener, based on a "sharpener' An alcoholic beverage used to enhance creativity and productivity which really tied nicely in to our industry and name of our business. Working with a local distiller we created a limited run of Christmas Gin that to send out. We wanted to specifically focus on packaging structure and how this can be a real strong visual part of a brand to narrate the story of the product before you even open the box. Working with a company called Insight we engineered a box that was in the shape of a pencil sharpener that cleverly housed the bottle inside, with a hole at the top which revealed the bottle lid and engraved message. The back of the has a little poem which was pencilled by copywriter Otis Partridge to enhance the message of a sharpener and needing to keep your wits sharp around the festive period. Then when you opened the box the bottle label was shaped as a pencil sharpening with an added bit of festive foiling. The rear label was a broken off piece of the sharpening from the front. The whole package created a nice piece of drinks trolley furniture.
