The brand name ‘Neve’ from a word of 19th century origin, meaning ‘glacier’. While this references the ancient and stunning landscape of New Zealand, the label revels in the New Zealand’s botany as it is home to nearly 200 species of native ferns — an unusually high number of fern species for a temperate country and about 40% of these species occur nowhere else in the world. With an ancient lineage, stretching back far beyond the time of the dinosaurs, ferns have become an iconic element in this country's national identity. The fern also inspires the koru, a spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art where it symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.
