CF Napa Creates Mira Winery’s Golden Egg

Mira Winery engaged CF Napa Brand Design to design the packaging for a new white wine produced in their Tonnellerie Taransaud egg-shaped barrel – Ovum Aureum, Latin for “The Golden Egg”. This gleaming wooden egg-shaped fermenter stunningly embodies the belief of the winery that everything is inspired by the golden ratio’s divine proportions. When applied to winemaking, Fibonacci’s principles not only create beauty on the outside but in this case also allow for the fermentation to mix itself inside the egg naturally, without the human intervention of punch downs. Ovum is the world’s first egg-shaped barrel crafted from oak, with only two being produced each year, making this exceptional piece of technology one of its kind in the Napa Valley and the western hemisphere. It was essential that the packaging design for this remarkable wine encapsulated the barrel’s distinctiveness. CF Napa Brand Design was inspired by the barrel’s appearance—it is a work of art itself—and aimed for a modern art sensibility that showcased the egg, as well as illustrated its unique, almost otherworldly intrigue. CF Napa Brand Design commissioned an illustration of an egg carried in a sedan chair, like royalty. The egg has been gilded in gold foil and is handled with care as if it was an ancient relic worshipped for its perfection. Along the side of the label is a description of the wine in handwritten type. The design honors the aesthetic achievement of the barrel and the remarkable wines it will produce.
